Up to 25 percent of the energy you use in your home is for heating your water. However, this number can rise quite a bit if you let your water heater fall into disrepair. It’s a good idea to get your water heater inspected and flushed once a year (or at least every few years) to remove built-up gunk and make sure it’s running as efficiently as possible.

The inspector will look thoroughly in these areas of the water heater:

  1. Locate the water heater- The inspector will start by locating the water heater in your home.
  2. Check the Anode Rod- The anode rod is the water heater’s defense mechanism against rust and corrosion and prevents premature failure. Depending on the chemical composition of the water, your anode rod can last anywhere from a few years to the life of your water heater.
  3. External Inspection- The inspector will do a visual inspection and check the tank for signs of leaks, as well as the relief valve and the piping to and from the water heater.
  4. Flush out the tank- Flushing the tank removes built-up gunk and keeps it running efficiently. We recommend you flush your tank at least once a year.
  5. Check the vent- If your water heater has a top vent, the inspector will need to ensure it’s working properly.

Having your water heater inspected yearly or before buying your home will prevent unexpected cost down the road. Give us a call today for all your water heater needs!
